His eyes snapped open suddenly; without the slightest warning. Scanning his plain white room, Gunner leaned forward. The warm bed pulled at him, begging him not to go. But he disobeyed, setting his feet on the silent wood floors. The moonlight poured in from the window, illuminating Gunner's face as he looked to the light.

As stealthily as a cat, Gunner slipped in the shadows, hiding himself from anyone who could be watching. He crept into the narrow hallway, heading to the kitchen.
